I really didn't watch all of every single Star Trek movie (so sue me) but that said, I would have to say Superman IV is one of the worst movies of all time and a sad end to Christopher Reeve's reign as the Superman of my youth.

I can't even bring myself to like Wrath of Khan, so to me the Star Trek franchise is a fundamentally rubbish one. I'm gonna go for Superman IV for finally moidering a once great franchise.

They're both shit, but Quest for Peace edges out Final Frontier just slightly. It's utter, irredeemable shit.

Superman all the way. Jon Cryer in plaid pants makes Otis look like Mr. Blonde.

I've either never seen Star Trek 5 or was so drunk that I've blacked it out, so have to go with Superman 4 by default. It committed the unforgivable sin of somehow being worse than Superman 3.

Even Hackman at his hammiest couldn't save that miserable dreck.

SUPERMAN IV. STAR TREK V is utter gash, but has the odd decent McCoy moment, and more importantly, has a thoroughly good score, as opposed to Alexander Courage (who coincidentally wrote the original Trek theme) and his murder of John Williams' music with a Bontempi.

Am I the only one here who's never seen Superman IV but did see The Final Frontier -- twice in two weeks no less, both times on a different station?

Yes. Yes I am.

I vote Superman IV too, but, in terms of being irredeemable, Chris Reeve walks out of that thing scot free. Supes' two speeches in that flick are perfect, as are the last lines between him and Luthor, and I fucking love him picking up the flag on the moon.

And, sorry, Surge....aside from Asshole Superman, 3 was MUCH worse.

The above is why you are wrong, Crow. Pryor over Cryer every time.

Plus, the broad getting turned into a cyborg is still creepy.

Superman IV is at least a shitty Superman flick, with Superman doing Super shit, a plot with its heart in the right place, Hackman having some fun, and at least has the excuse of budget to fall back on for a good portion of its faults. The only excuse for Superman 3 is that there was a lot of bad blow going around in the 80s.

SUPERMAN IV would make a good story if it were flipped the other way - if Supes went to the U.N. and told everyone "Lose the nukes" and a bunch of countries said "Fuck you" and tried to destroy Superman. Frankly, isn't Superman telling the world what's good for it really, really arrogant? I don't know about you, but I don't want some hyper-powered alien bossing the world around.

TREK V is the best example of the "Even Trek good, Odd Trek bad" trend. This film somehow manages to make shit like GENERATIONS seem palatable.

Yeah, I think we all agree that Superman IV is worse than Trek V.

I have seen all the Supes and Trek movies a zillion times, and certainly someone is in my corner in thinking V can't be the worst when Insurrection is sitting there staring at us....

I did think about this, but the next generation stuff mostly committed the crime of being bland. And that extends to the television series too, at least up until Enterprise which I never watched. Star Trek V is actively incompetant. None of the Next Gen stuff is badly done, it's just not very memorable. I have no idea how Insurrection ends, for example.

It does seem that Superman IV wins this round hands down. I shall put up a more difficult choice on Monday.

I never watched Star Trek 5. Or should I say, I never willingly sat down infront of a television, and watched to completion, Star Trek 5. Hell it could be the one about whales for all I know. I pretty much remember that one, Khan, and Generations having to do with a space anomaly which really was just a clever McGuffin to get old and new crew together on the same celluloid.

Anyways. Supes 4 wins hands down because Luthor be berfin' sunbabies. And that last animated gif at the bottom of the article pretty much explains how stupid it is.

All I remember about Insurrection was Geordi crying like a little girl because he could see clouds and that one Admiral guy getting killed with the face-stretcher machine.

Geordi's blindness always bugged me. They're able to warp across the galaxy in 2 seconds, but they haven't perfected eye transplants or somesuch? Also, no cure for baldness in the future?

The entire Zefram Cochrane subplot in FIRST CONTACT is terrible, as is all of NEMESIS. I'd place NEMESIS under V, because at least V feels like a Trek film, whereas NEMESIS is a crappy action movie in a Starfleet Uniform.

First of all, I vote Superman IV. I just remember that when it came out, the series had only one entry that was actually bad, and we had hope that it could pull out. Once he whipped out his "Rebuild Wall Vision", we gave up.

As far as Trek films, for me, the contest for worst comes down to Star Trek V against Nemesis. It really is a squeaker. But since The Next Generation was never something I cared about very much, Nemesis wasn't tarnishing anything golden. So on that subjective scale, I have to dock more points from Star Trek V and give it the "victory".

This says nothing good about Trek films, and rather justifies Nemesis' decision to drop the Trek-stuff in favour of generic action beats. I haven't got the love in me to forgive amateruish film-making just because Spock says 'illogical'.

P.S. Spock saying 'illogical' is always fun though and you're a nazi if you disagree.

I'm not talking about Spock saying illogical, wingus. I'm talking about actually having some relatively emotional beats from the triumverate relationship. I agree the film is terrible, and I'm not saying this excuses any part of the film, it's just for me as someone who grew up with Trek, it makes the film just a tiny bit more for me as opposed to Captain Picard running around in a truck.

NEMESIS does not justify its decision at all, because Trek has never been about action. Even in stuff like Wrath of Khan, the spaceship battles aren't the important thing. Nemesis completely and utterly misses the point about Star Trek.
